Isla Guadalupe Project
Isla Guadalupe is 220 miles from San Diego in Mexican waters. Bill Poole made the first trip to Isla Guadalupe and encountered outstanding fishing for yellowfin tuna. Over the following fifty years the San Diego sportfishing fleet has visited the island for outstanding fall tuna fishing.
In 2009, the Mexican Immigration office reinterpreted a Mexican Law which required reporting to immigration prior to visiting the island. Due to conflicts with International and U.S. law, the San Diego fleet stopped all sportfishing in this area.
The Association is working with the Mexican Government to develop a new process that meets the Mexican Governments needs and at the same time restores the tourism activities at the island.
We are hopeful for a solution in the near future.
